Fabric Shopping in Hong Kong: Sham Shui Po

I spent 3 days in the Fabric District of Hong Kong, but I could have spent a week. It is completely overwhelming and so easy to get lost in.

You can find everything and anything you want in terms of trims, fabric, elastic, buttons and ribbons. Every colour you can imagine is available here.

Nam Cheong and Yu Chau street are great places to start for trims, feathers, rhinestones, buttons and snaps. For fabric stores, the streets go on for what seems like blocks and blocks. You can take the fabric swatch cards from the stores and sometimes swatches from the roll. Most stores only deal with retail, but other shops also take wholesale orders.

I brought back an extra suitcase worth of fabric, trims and supplies for the Love At First Blush line.

  2. Thanks so much for following! In Hong Kong they speak English and Chinese, so you shouldn't have trouble conversing with them.

  4. Hi Aliya,

Sham Shui Po has tons of shops, most of them are wholesale but some deal with the public. You can find some stores with low minimums for fabric yardage. Definitely look around though and bring a map! You might get lost!

  5. Hi:

Is this area where I will find 6 yards of chiffon or georgette for INDIAN sarees (45 inches wide)?

  6. Hi Genie,

I saw some stores carrying solid chiffon fabrics. You will have to check with each store as they may have different minimums you need to meet.

    1. Hi Jenny,

If you meet the minimums you can buy it wholesale. I don't think you even need your ABN, but I would bring it just in case. I didn't need a guide, but definitely get a map. You'll probably need at least 3-5 days or more. There's just so much to do and see!

      Have a great time.
